Eye Makeup Tips for Glasses Wearers

Whether you wear prescription glasses, blue light glasses or just want to make a fashion statement with your eyewear, glasses add a new dimension to your face. No matter what style of glasses you wear, it’s important to adjust your eye makeup to best compliment your features and your eyewear.

Don’t think of glasses as a replacement for eye makeup. Even though they do cover some of the area around your eyes, they also draw attention to your eyes. It’s important for glasses wearers to give their eye makeup some special attention.

So how should you do your eye makeup as a glasses wearer? Here are some tips to guide you in the right direction.

Fill Your Brows
Don’t neglect your brows! Depending on your style of glasses, your frames may partly cover your brows. Even if they don’t (such as if you wear a wire frame), it’s important to fill your brows. A tinted brow gel is an easy way to fill them with a single product, rather than using a pencil and gel. Make sure not to neglect the tail end of your brows as this part of your brow can stand out more when you’re wearing glasses.

Use Complimentary Eyeshadow
If your glasses are a bright, bold color, you may need to be selective about the eyeshadow shades you use. Elle recommends bold neutrals if your frames are a thicker or chunkier style. If you use too subdued of a palette or something not pigmented enough, your shadow will just disappear behind your lenses.

Don’t Neglect Eyeliner
While glasses create a frame around your eyes, they don’t do the same thing as eyeliner. According to Elle, “the thicker the frames, the thicker the liner.” Don’t let your frames outdo your eyeliner. And, make sure to use liner on both your top and bottom lid if your thick frame goes around the whole lens. If you wear glasses that only have a frame piece on the top, you can skip the bottom eyeliner for a lighter look.

Use a Translucent Setting Powder
Glasses sitting on your face all day can easily rub the foundation on the bridge of your nose and under the arms of the glasses off. To help prevent this, Bustle recommends using a translucent setting powder over your concealer and foundation to hold it in place. A light dusting of the powder is all you need to keep your liquid products in place without looking cakey.
