Travel Makeup Tips

Looking cute and put together while you travel can be a challenge. You have to deal with climate changes, rushed schedules, long days and other variables as you go from one side of the country to the other or even across the world.

However, feeling like your outfit and look are cohesive and put together can help make you feel like your whole travel day is less hectic.

On top of trying to look cute on your travel day, you also have to think about your packing and how you’ll do your makeup (and stay organized) during the rest of your trip.

But take a deep breath — there’s no need to stress. Here are four tips to help you travel at your beautiful best:

  1. Go Light
If you have a long travel day, the last thing you want is makeup caked on for 18 hours as you wait in lines, sit in uncomfortable rows and deal with weather changes at destinations and layovers. Choose a lightweight foundation rather than anything super full coverage so that your skin can breathe! A powder foundation is the ultimate lightweight option and you can dab concealer on as needed for a little more coverage.
  2. Add Staying Power
To make sure your makeup stays in place all day long, a setting spray is a great final touch. All you need is a spritz to help hold the product in place. It can also be helpful to use a primer as a first step in your routine if you don’t already typically do so. Primer moisturizes your skin and gives your makeup products something to “grip” onto, helping them stay in place rather than melting off, smudging or caking.
  3. Prep With a Face Mask
The night before your trip, use a moisturizing face mask to help prep your skin for the long day ahead. The air quality in an airplane can dry your skin, so putting some extra effort into moisturizing is always a good idea. Throw a second face mask in your bag for the night before your flight home so that you keep your skin in great shape as you return back to your normal day-to-day.
  4. Pack Smart
Think about the type of trip you’re taking and pack your beauty products accordingly. Do you need your full eyeshadow palette or are you going to be spending most of your time at the pool, sans makeup? Do you want all of your eight lip colors, or are the bright springy colors the only ones you’ll actually use? Once you’ve evaluated what you truly need, pack it in a bag with several compartments or use several small bags to separate products. This will make it easier to find what you need in a hurry — especially if you want to touch up your makeup mid-travel day.
